“An evening of Christmas Radio Drama” – Nov. 29, 30, Dec. 1, 2007 – Western Iowa Tech Community College Black Box theater.
The radio adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel, A Christmas Carol, was produced by Orson Welles on December 24, 1939 and starred Lionel Barrymore as Ebenezer Scrooge. The Great Plains Radio Theatre Project’s performance, as is its custom, featured both digital and hand-operated acoustical sound effects. Following an intermission that offered complimentary Christmas cookies, chocolate fondue, and homemade jelly roll, the GPR players returned to the stage with a second seasonal favorite, A Miracle for Christmas. Miracle first aired in the CBS radio series Grand Central Station on December 24, 1949. The story is about a disgruntled ambulance driver who finds himself working Christmas Eve with a new intern. During the course of the evening the driver crosses paths with three people in need, each of whom is miraculously treated by the intern until the driver himself is touched and change by this very special person.
