The formation of the Great Southwest Radio Theatre Project, LLC  (GSR) developed from the former Great Plains Radio Theatre Project (GPR) based in Sioux City , Iowa from the fall of 2006 to the end of 2012.

The concept of the GPR performance troupe was developed by Ralph Swain, GPR president, and Paul Guggenheimer, GPR vice-president.

Ralph moved to Coolidge, Arizona as a permanent resident and Paul took a position with WESA-FM, a public radio station in Pittsburgh, PA.

Soon after Ralph settled in Coolidge, he proceeded to establish the Great Southwest Radio Theatre Project, LLC, rounded up and auditioned some eager old-time radio enthusiasts and began public performances.
